Mercedes Benz G 500 Restyling in the G63 AMG 2017
Mercedes-Benz G-Class Full Frame-Off Restoration
Complete Disassembly & Technical Assessment
The vehicle was completely disassembled and a thorough defektovka – a full technical inspection and fault assessment – was carried out across all major units and assemblies. Based on the findings, a comprehensive parts order was placed and frame restoration work was initiated.
Frame Restoration
The frame required extensive work. In several areas the metal had rusted through entirely, requiring targeted repairs to all affected sections. The full scope of frame work included: replacement of all body cushion brackets, all three frame pipes, all shock absorber and spring fasteners, and the engine mount. Every tube and hose was renewed, all body cushions were replaced, and the axles were fully rebuilt. Shock absorbers, all silent blocks, universal joints, and springs were also replaced in their entirety, bringing the frame to a fully restored condition.
Body Preparation & Electrical
Once the body returned from the paint shop, a complete noise and vibration isolation treatment was applied throughout. Since the body was entirely stripped at this stage, a full wiring installation was carried out from scratch. With the foundation properly prepared, the assembly process began.
Mid-Stage Assembly
As the project approached its final phase, significant milestones were completed: the engine was finished and installed, stainless steel hinges were fitted throughout, a G63 AMG full body kit (dodger) was installed, the air conditioning radiator was fitted, and comprehensive anti-corrosion treatment was applied to all body components. The wiring was brought to final condition, noise isolation was completed, and the remaining items — 2011 cabin ventilation, AMG exhaust system, and an alcantara ceiling — were queued for final installation.
Interior, Electronics & Optics
The final assembly stage involved a complete interior and optics upgrade, bringing the vehicle from its original 2001 specification up to 2011 G-Class standard. All of the following were installed: full dashboard, steering wheel, door locks, OBF unit, COMAND NTG2.5 infotainment system, rear-view camera, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, Harman/Kardon speaker system, full interior and exterior lighting, AMG side sills with integrated lighting, daytime running lights, xenon headlights, 2013-specification mirrors, and a vehicle alarm system with remote auto start.
Project Summary
The completed vehicle features a fully restored and repaired frame, a replaced and refinished body, an entirely new running gear, a 2011-specification interior, a complete G63 AMG body kit, all-stainless steel hinges, a black alcantara headliner, comprehensive anti-corrosion treatment, remote auto start, illuminated AMG sills, a rear camera, AMG exhaust system, engine tuning, and a wide range of additional functional and aesthetic enhancements.
